Jane Barr Gibson R.M.S.,H.S.
Born in Tasmania in 1954, Jane`s parents moved to Kirkcudbright while she was very young. After Kirkcudbright Academy she did teacher training in art & geography before deciding to do art fulltime. Firstly a foundation year at Cumbria College of Art & Design, then on to a degree course At Norwich School of Art which was the only venue in the country to do wildlife illustration. When the course was finished she continued her studies in Fashion & Textiles which incorporated her love for illustration. After working some time in Norwich, she returned to Kirkcudbright with illness, and took up painting as a sideline, never realising the amount of interest her work would generate in local galleries. Jane`s work has long been admired and nearly as many of her paintings are to be found proudly displayed in Kirkcudbright homes as have found their way into other collections spread far and wide across the world Elected artist in residence to the Dorothy L. Sayers Society in 1984, painting the Coat of Arms of Harriet Vane and Lord Peter Wimsey in the form of pendants, brooches and paperweights, which are sent all over the world. She is the only Scot living in Scotland to be a member of both the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers (R.M.S.0 and the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists (H.S.)
